Social Media Management Agency Costs and Scope of Work

Social media management services are difficult to compare by monthly fee alone. Costs change depending on whether an agency only prepares posts or also handles strategy, production, publishing, community management, analytics and recurring meetings. Public information available in September 2026 shows partial support ranging from tens of thousands of yen to roughly ¥300,000 per month, while broader strategy-and-analysis engagements can reach roughly ¥400,000 to ¥1,000,000 per month. Define the scope first, then compare quotes on the same basis.

KEY POINTS
  1. 01

The biggest cost driver is the scope of responsibility, not simply the number of posts

  2. 02

Public examples range from partial support in the tens of thousands to ¥300,000 per month and broader programs around ¥400,000 to ¥1,000,000

Compare strategy, creative, shooting, publishing, community management, analytics and paid-media responsibilities separately

Monthly costs can range from tens of thousands of yen to around one million yen

There is no regulated standard price for social media management. Quotes change with the number of channels, publishing frequency, shooting, video production, community management, reporting, meetings and paid-media support. A single average therefore tells you less than a public example with a comparable scope.

Gaiax's July 2025 guidance describes roughly ¥200,000 to ¥500,000 per month as one reference range for corporate agency work, with sub-¥100,000 plans generally limited in scope, ¥100,000-¥300,000 plans covering posting and light reporting, ¥300,000-¥500,000 adding strategy and ongoing improvement, and ¥500,000-¥1,000,000 supporting broader specialist teams. These are reference bands rather than a universal market tariff.

Tete Marche publishes examples of roughly ¥50,000-¥300,000 per month for partial Instagram or X production support and roughly ¥500,000-¥1,000,000 for total support. Comnico publishes examples such as content planning from ¥100,000 per month, monthly reporting and meetings from ¥200,000 per month, and account operations from ¥500,000 per month.

Scope matters more than post count

Social media work can include strategy, planning, production, approvals, publishing, user responses and analysis. Two programs with the same number of posts can require very different resources if one only formats supplied assets while the other starts with monthly planning and includes shooting and editing.

Creative production is a major variable. Template-based still images require a different team from original design, location shooting or recurring Reels and TikTok production. Talent, studios, locations and hair and makeup may be billed separately from the core management fee.

Community management also needs a clear boundary. Drafting suggested replies, sending first-line responses and escalating support cases are different responsibilities. Crisis response requires an additional approval and escalation structure.

Change the outsourced scope to fit the budget

At around ¥100,000 per month or less, outsourcing selected workload such as copywriting, design or publishing is often more realistic than delegating the full operation. Keep brand decisions and final approval inside the company.

With roughly ¥200,000-¥500,000 per month, it becomes easier to combine planning, production, publishing management and monthly reporting. Shooting, frequent video production or multiple channels can push the quote higher.

At ¥500,000 per month and above, full-team models covering strategy, content planning, production, operations, analytics and improvement meetings become more common. Large accounts can also require substantial work for approvals, risk management and coordination across departments.

Standardize seven items before comparing quotes

Before comparing price, align the target channels, monthly post volume, planning responsibility, number of still and video assets, shooting requirements, comment and DM handling, and analytics or recurring meetings. Separate paid media, campaign administration and influencer programs if they are also included.

A ¥300,000 monthly quote is not inherently cheap or expensive. ¥300,000 with strategy and shooting is different from ¥300,000 for publishing supplied material. The quote should describe both deliverables and decision-making responsibilities.

Contract length also matters. Social operations require repeated planning, production, publishing and analysis cycles, so some providers use multi-month contracts. Comnico states that ongoing account operations are generally contracted from six months, with exceptions for fixed-term campaigns.

Full outsourcing is not always the best model

Companies whose product knowledge or customer responses require internal judgment may benefit from a hybrid model. Planning and final approval can remain in-house while production, publishing and reporting are outsourced. Delegating brand decisions as well as execution can create slower approval loops.

Outsourcing has more value when posts repeatedly stop because the owner has other responsibilities, when production capacity is missing, or when monthly analysis never happens. The goal is not to eliminate internal work; it is to separate the decisions the company should retain from execution that an external partner can handle consistently.

Define internal ownership first, then define the outsourced scope and compare multiple providers under the same conditions. Comparing the same responsibilities is more useful than choosing the lowest headline price.
